Mavrud of Asenovgrad 2015 Standard, Alc. 13,5% Lot 18354 2 Bought one bottle from Bulgaria during summer holidays last year, as I had been reading about this authentic bulgarian grapes variety and I wanted to taste it. On the back label I can read that's a controlled and guaranteed wine, but not sure that it's about an origine standard. Look: Deep ruby red colour. Smell: Fruity, black fruits, blackberry, smoked prunes, red cherries. The alcohol is just a little bit high but not to much. Taste is very close with romanian Fetească Neagră, with blueberry, blackcurrant notes plus red and sour cherries, with a very pleasant soft touch of oak on the palate. A little sweetness but still dry the wine is balanced with a good acidity in the end. It's a good wine, pairing well with pork and romanian sarmale dish! For the price of 9,8 Leva (5 Euro) is a very good wine. Hope to taste the Reserve quality next time!
